Bhavans Vivekananda Viday Mandir, Manvila
Founded on November 7, 1938, nearly a decade before the advent of independence, with the blessing of Mahatma Gandhi and the co-operation and support of several distinguished stalwarts of India’s freedom movement, the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan has grown, from small beginnings, into a comprehensive all – India intellectual, cultural and educational movement. It is totally apolitical. Its founder, Kulapati Dr.K.M.Munshi, looked upon the Bhavan as an “adventure in faith”, a faith in India’s past, present and future. It is also a faith in India’s people who have a rich and unbroken cultural heritage.
The Thiruvananthapuram Kendra of the Bhavan was established in 1986 under the illustrious helmsmanship of the late Sri.Sooranadu Kunjan Pillai and Secretary S.M. Radhakrishnan Nair. Bhavan’s Vivekananda Vidya Mandir School had a humble beginning when it Started at Kumarapuram in a rented building in 1995 April. There were classes from I to V and the total strength was less than 100, with only 9 staff members.
Away from the din and buzzle of Thiruvananthapuram city, BVVM is nestled in the lush greenery of Manvila. As you enter the school gate, you will be blessed by Goddess Saraswathy(Goddess of Knowledge) consecrated in the Nakshathravanam. This grove has 28 trees representing 28 zodiac stars showing the significance of nature in human life. There are 3 blocks in the school – the main block or Bhishma block, Vyasa block and the new nursery block named Mahatma Gandhi block. On the ground floor of Bhishama block there is a small auditorium. The School campus consists of 2.89 acres of land.
The School with 247 students and 24 staff members was shifted from Kumarapuram where it was originally started, to the newly constructed building at Manvila on 16th June 2003.
